Better Indoor Air in Millcreek

Cleaner Indoor Air for Millcreek Homes During Inversion Season

When the valley air turns gray and the windows stay shut, your Millcreek home recirculates its own air for days. A whole-home system treats that air at the furnace, so every room benefits at once.

One system instead of five boxes

Portable purifiers help one room at a time, each with its own filter and its own hum. Treating the air at the HVAC system covers the basement bedroom, the kitchen and the upstairs office together, with nothing taking up floor space.

A sealed house that smells fresher

Cooking odors and that stale, shut-in smell linger in a closed Millcreek house in January. UV-C at the coil and better filtration through the return help cut down the odors and dust that build up when nobody can open a window.

Smoke days you can ride out indoors

When wildfire smoke drifts into the valley in summer, the air conditioner keeps running. A filtration upgrade at the system catches more fine dust on those days, so the air inside stays cleaner while the windows stay closed.

Indoor Air Quality Experts

Your Air May Be Circulating More Than You Think

Even after cleaning your ducts, airborne contaminants like mold spores, bacteria, and allergens continue to circulate through your home every time your HVAC system runs.

Airborne Contaminants

Bacteria, viruses, and mold spores circulating through your air

Allergy & Respiratory Issues

Triggers for asthma, coughing, and irritation

Odors & Stale Air

Persistent smells caused by microbial growth

Hidden HVAC Buildup

Moisture inside your system creates the perfect environment for mold

Stop Contaminants at the Source — Not Just in the Air

Whole home air purification systems use UV-C light installed inside your HVAC system to neutralize harmful microorganisms before they circulate through your home.

As air passes through your system, the UV light disrupts the DNA of mold, bacteria, and viruses, preventing them from reproducing or causing harm.

Unlike standard filters that only trap particles, UV purification actively neutralizes contaminants at the source.

Two Types of Protection:

  • Coil sterilization (prevents mold growth at the source)
  • Air purification (treats air as it circulates)

Why Act Now

Cleaner Air. Healthier Home. Better Performance.

Over time, moisture and debris inside your HVAC system create an environment where mold and bacteria thrive. UV purification continuously targets these contaminants, helping protect your air and your system.

  • Kills Mold & Bacteria
  • Improves Air Quality
  • Helps With Allergies & Breathing
  • Eliminates Odors
  • Boosts HVAC Efficiency

I am very appreciative of Dave's prompt service, not only to analyze and clean ducts and vents with at least 20 years of dust buildup, but also to provide immediate mold remediation upon the discovery of water damage underneath our washer and dryer!

Dave was very friendly and helpful. He was very honest and upfront. They are competitively priced and quick. He was able to test my house within a couple of days. The lab results take 5 days, but that's out of their hands. They can order a rush to have the lab grow the results a little faster if needed. He did a great job cleaning my ventilation system which was important since I have bird fancier's lung.

I'm not sure why all the reviews are bad because we had an awesome experience they removed, treated and sealed so much mold and cleaned our very dirty air ducts they were also extremely polite. Good people. The smell from the disinfectant does last longer then they say though, would keep that in mind. We stayed outside for awhile but the benefit of it outweighed the inconvenience

Local Expertise

Whole Home Air Purification in Millcreek

The Millcreek Picture

Millcreek sits inside the basin the Utah Division of Air Quality describes when it explains inversions: the Wasatch, Oquirrh and Traverse Mountains hold cold air in the Salt Lake Valley, and pollution builds beneath it. A typical winter brings several multi-day episodes, and summer can bring wildfire smoke. Both push families to keep the windows closed.

When the house is sealed, the furnace and air conditioner move the same air over and over. Treating that air at the HVAC system, with UV-C lamps and better filtration, cleans it where it already flows instead of with a portable unit in every room. Our lamps are ozone-free.

Installing a Whole-Home System in a Millcreek House

  1. Look at your equipmentWe check the furnace or air handler, the filter slot, the return and the coil. Millcreek has everything from 1950s houses to newer townhomes, so the fit varies from one home to the next.
  2. Clean first, if neededIf the ducts hold years of dust, we suggest cleaning them before installation. If they're in good shape, we tell you that plainly and move straight on to the install.
  3. Install lamps and filtrationOzone-free UV-C lamps mount near the coil, and we set up the filter upgrade your system can handle without straining the blower or restricting airflow.
  4. Walk you through upkeepBefore we leave, you'll know how to change the filter, when the lamps are due, and what to check each fall before inversion season begins.

Millcreek's Air, From the Valley Floor to the Canyon

Millcreek covers about 12.77 square miles, with Salt Lake City and South Salt Lake to the north and Murray and Holladay to the south. The city's listed elevation is about 4,285 feet, and Olympus Cove climbs to roughly 5,120 feet on the slopes of Mount Olympus. To the east, Mill Creek Canyon stays undeveloped inside the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.

All of it sits within the Salt Lake Valley basin, which is why indoor air gets attention here year round.

  • Winter: five to six multi-day inversion episodes in a typical season, according to the Utah Division of Air Quality.
  • Summer: wildfire smoke and long air conditioner runs with the house closed.
  • Spring and fall: open-window weeks and the best time to change filters and service the system.

With 26,650 housing units counted in the 2020 census, Millcreek's homes range from compact apartments to large hillside houses, so we fit each system to the equipment in that home.

How a whole-home system works

A whole-home system sits inside the heating and cooling equipment you already have. Ozone-free UV-C lamps shine on the cooling coil and the air moving past it, and an upgraded filter catches more of the fine dust the blower pulls through the return. Because every room is served by the same ducts, every room gets the benefit, with no extra cords, extra filters or extra noise.

We size the setup to your equipment. A 1960s house with a newer furnace in the basement needs different parts than a townhome with a compact air handler in a hall closet.

Inversion weeks and smoke days in Millcreek

The Division of Air Quality reports that a typical Utah winter averages 18 days with fine particulate above the federal standard. Inversions often settle in after a snowstorm and hold until another storm clears them out. For a Millcreek household, that means long stretches with the house shut and the furnace cycling.

In summer, wildfire smoke can sit in the valley for days. Fox 13 reported guidance pointing Utah homeowners to filters rated MERV 12 or higher during smoke and inversion periods, and an Intermountain Healthcare physician noted that there is only so much a home air conditioner can filter.

We can't change the air outside. A whole-home system works on the air inside: less dust in circulation, fewer lingering odors and a cleaner coil.

Fitting the system to Millcreek homes

Millcreek's housing runs from postwar houses in Canyon Rim to hillside homes in Olympus Cove, along with thousands of condo and apartment units. Census figures show about nine in ten houses here heat with natural gas. In a forced-air home, the furnace blower is the starting point for a whole-home system.

If your ducts haven't been cleaned in a long time, we may suggest cleaning them first, so the new equipment isn't moving old debris around. If they are in good shape, we will say so and skip it. One call covers both if you need them.

Basements deserve a look during the same visit. Many Millcreek houses have bedrooms and family rooms downstairs that were finished well after the house was built, and those rooms often sit at the end of long duct runs. If a basement room feels stale or musty, the cause may be moisture rather than air quality, and no purifier fixes a damp wall. In that case we'll tell you, and we can check for mold before recommending equipment. Treating the air only makes sense once the source of the smell is understood.

Upkeep through the year

UV-C lamps and filters need regular attention to keep working. We show you how to change the filter, tell you when lamps are due and can check the system when you book other service. Indoor humidity still matters as well. The EPA recommends keeping it below 60 percent and ideally between 30 and 50, and a whole-home system works best in a house that stays in that range.

We install systems across Millcreek's ZIP codes, including 84106, 84107, 84109, 84117 and 84124.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What affects the cost of whole home air purification in Millcreek?

It depends on your equipment. The type and size of the furnace or air handler, how much room there is for a filter cabinet and lamps, and whether the house has more than one system all change the parts and labor. Some Millcreek homes also need duct cleaning first. We look at your setup in person and give you a written price before any work begins.

When should I install a whole-home air system in Millcreek?

Any time works, but fall is a good target. Getting the system in before December means it is running when inversion season starts and the house closes up. Spring is the other natural window, ahead of summer air conditioning and smoke season. Installation happens at the furnace or air handler, so it doesn't depend on the weather outside your Millcreek home.

Will homeowners insurance pay for a whole-home air purifier in Utah?

Usually not, since most policies treat it as a home improvement. If an air system is part of repairs after a covered event, such as a fire that spread smoke through the house, your policy may handle it differently. Keep your receipts and ask your agent. The Utah Insurance Department can explain general homeowners coverage questions, though it can't tell you what your own policy pays.

Is a whole-home system better than portable purifiers for a Millcreek house?

They solve different problems. A good portable HEPA unit can clean the air in one room well, which may be all a small Millcreek apartment needs. A larger house with a finished basement would need several units, each with filters to replace. A whole-home system treats the air for every room the ducts reach. We'll tell you honestly which fits your home.

Do the UV lamps you install in Millcreek homes produce ozone?

No. We install ozone-free UV lamps. That matters most during inversion season, when Millcreek households keep their homes sealed for days and anything added to the indoor air stays there. The lamps work on the coil and the air passing through the system, and they don't release anything into your rooms.

Will a whole-home system help my Millcreek house during an inversion?

It can't change the air outside, and inversions in the Salt Lake Valley can last until a storm clears them. Inside, it helps by treating the air your furnace recirculates while the windows stay shut. Upgraded filtration catches more fine dust, and UV-C keeps the coil cleaner. We'll also check the basics, such as filter fit and gaps around the filter slot.

Can you install a whole-home system in a Millcreek condo or townhome?

Often, yes, if your unit has its own furnace or air handler. Many Millcreek townhomes do, usually in a closet or a small mechanical room, and we can fit lamps and filtration to compact equipment. If your building shares a central system, that equipment is likely managed by the HOA, and we'd need to work with them. We'll check before quoting.

We live near the mouth of Mill Creek Canyon. Should we plan for wildfire smoke?

It's sensible anywhere in Millcreek. Mill Creek Canyon lies inside the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, but summer smoke often comes from fires far away and spreads across the whole valley. Close windows before smoke arrives, keep a fresh filter in, and use a damp mop so settled particles aren't stirred up. A whole-home system adds better filtration at the source of your airflow.
