I am very appreciative of Dave's prompt service, not only to analyze and clean ducts and vents with at least 20 years of dust buildup, but also to provide immediate mold remediation upon the discovery of water damage underneath our washer and dryer!

Dave was very friendly and helpful. He was very honest and upfront. They are competitively priced and quick. He was able to test my house within a couple of days. The lab results take 5 days, but that's out of their hands. They can order a rush to have the lab grow the results a little faster if needed. He did a great job cleaning my ventilation system which was important since I have bird fancier's lung.

I'm not sure why all the reviews are bad because we had an awesome experience they removed, treated and sealed so much mold and cleaned our very dirty air ducts they were also extremely polite. Good people. The smell from the disinfectant does last longer then they say though, would keep that in mind. We stayed outside for awhile but the benefit of it outweighed the inconvenience

Local Expertise

Air Duct Cleaning in West Valley City

The West Valley City Picture

Homes across West Valley City sit close enough to the industrial corridor that fine outdoor dust is a constant, and swamp coolers make it worse by pulling that outside air straight into the house. Over the years it all settles into the ductwork, which is exactly why air duct cleaning is such a practical step for homes here.

West Valley ducts are old enough to have collected years of buildup but new enough that owners assume they are fine. Two local factors speed it up. The industrial corridor and busy arterials nearby kick up a steady haze of fine dust, and the evaporative swamp coolers that are everywhere on this side of the valley work by pulling large volumes of outdoor air through the house, depositing that grit in the duct runs. In the multi-generational households common here the system runs hard year-round, so it adds up faster.

We follow EPA's "as needed" approach

The EPA doesn't recommend cleaning air ducts on a routine schedule. It says cleaning makes sense when there's substantial visible mold inside the ducts, when ducts are infested with rodents or insects, or when they're clogged with dust and debris that comes out of the registers. It also says to fix whatever caused the problem first, or it will likely come back. That's how we approach West Valley City homes. If your ducts look fine, we'll tell you and point you to filter changes instead.

We also check where each duct meets the register. An unsealed connection in a basement ceiling or attic can pull in dust from unconditioned spaces, and cleaning won't fix that. Sealing it will.

Duct systems change with the decade

West Valley's housing was built in waves. About a quarter of today's homes date to the 1970s. The city's general plan describes the late 1990s as its fastest growth since incorporation, followed by strong construction from 2000 to 2007. Each era tends to have its own duct layout.

Many 1970s homes use sheet-metal trunk lines in the basement, with returns that are simply the space between floor joists closed off with a metal pan. Those panned returns collect dust and are hard to seal. Homes from the 1990s and 2000s more often have flexible duct running through the attic, where a sagging or kinked run can trap debris. Manufactured homes, about 7 percent of the city's housing, have ducts under the floor that can be crushed, disconnected or reached by mice.

Times when a cleaning is worth a look

We usually get the most useful calls after a specific event, not on a schedule:

  • After a remodel, when drywall dust went through the system
  • After moving into a home with an unknown history of pets or smoking
  • After rodents have been in the house or the duct system
  • Before the furnace starts running steadily in late fall

We start with an inspection, show you what we see at the registers and inside the trunk, and give you an honest read on whether cleaning will make a difference. Then we check the filter slot, since gaps that let air bypass the filter are a common reason ducts get dirty in the first place.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Do swamp coolers make duct cleaning more important in West Valley?

Yes. Because evaporative coolers pull large amounts of unfiltered outdoor air through your home, they carry far more dust and grit into the ductwork than a closed AC system does. Homes running swamp coolers through West Valley's dusty summers usually benefit from cleaning on the shorter end of the recommended range.

Can you add dryer-vent cleaning to the same visit?

We can. Dryer vents collect lint the same way ducts collect dust, and a clogged one is both a fire risk and a reason your dryer runs long. Bundling it with your duct cleaning saves a separate trip and is an easy add-on for the busy, full households common throughout West Valley.

What affects the cost of air duct cleaning in a West Valley City home?

The number of supply and return runs, the layout, and access. A 1970s home with basement trunks and panned joist returns takes different work than a 2000s home with flex duct in the attic. Manufactured homes with ducts under the floor have their own access issues. Heavy debris, mold, or rodent contamination adds steps, since those need more than routine cleaning.

When should I schedule duct cleaning in West Valley City?

Early fall is a good time. Utah's wood-burning restrictions begin November 1, and winter inversions in the Salt Lake Valley can last days or weeks, so the furnace runs a lot with windows shut. Getting the system inspected and cleaned, if needed, before that stretch means you're not circulating a remodel's dust all winter. Right after a renovation is also a sensible time.

Does homeowners insurance cover duct cleaning in Utah?

Routine cleaning is usually treated as maintenance and isn't covered. When ducts are contaminated by a sudden covered event, such as smoke from a house fire or water from a burst pipe, cleaning may be part of the claim. Policies vary, so check yours or ask your agent before scheduling. We can provide photos and notes on what we found.

Do manufactured homes in West Valley need a different kind of duct cleaning?

The approach changes. West Valley has more than 2,800 mobile and manufactured homes by Census estimates. Their main duct usually runs lengthwise under the floor, sometimes with a crossover duct between sections. We check for crushed or disconnected sections and signs of rodents before cleaning. If a duct is torn open underneath, it needs repair first, or it will keep pulling in debris.

I just bought an older home in Granger. Should I clean the ducts before moving in?

It can make sense if you don't know the home's history with pets, smoking or renovation, but look first. Pull a few register covers and check the filter slot. Heavy dust, debris or droppings inside the ducts are reasons to clean. A thin layer of dust on a return grille, by itself, isn't, according to the EPA. We'll inspect and tell you which you have.

Can mice get into the ductwork of West Valley homes?

Yes, especially in panned returns in older basements, in ducts under manufactured homes, and in attic duct that has separated at a joint. If you see droppings at a register, turn the system fan off and don't vacuum them dry. CDC guidance is to wet droppings with disinfectant before cleanup. We handle that first, then clean the ducts, and recommend sealing the entry point.
