Why HVAC Cleaning is Necessary

Are you concerned about the air quality in your home or office?  Poor indoor air quality sometimes leads to a variety of health issues.  Luckily, performing an HVAC cleaning is an easy way to make sure clean air is circulating in your home or office. Many people notice dust on their ducts and worry they may need their ductwork cleaned.  However, this is actually not the case.  While HVAC cleaning is necessary for cleaner air, it is not necessary to clean ducts often.

HVAC Cleaning

It is best to have annual HVAC inspections and get the entire HVAC system cleaned.  Duct cleaning is helpful but not necessary in most cases.  Clean Dryer ducts on a regular basis.  Duct cleaning is useful in certain situations, such as the ducts are filthy, infested with mice or other vermin, or if there are visible signs of mold growth on the ducts or mechanical components.  In these circumstances, it would be wise to have the entire HVAC system cleaned and serviced, not just the ducts.  Cleaning your HVAC system usually includes duct cleaning as part of the service. Check out the items that should be covered in an HVAC cleaning service:

  • HVAC ducts
  • Grills and diffusers
  • Furnace plenums, components, and air filter

Benefits of HVAC Cleaning

Cleaning your HVAC system is a good idea when you have a contaminated system or it’s been several years since a cleaning. Here are some benefits of HVAC system cleaning:

  • Energy savings– Your heating and cooling system work harder and have a shorter life span when there are contaminates.  The U.S. Department of Energy says 25 to 40 percent of energy used in the heating and cooling process is wasted.  A clean HVAC system uses less energy. Also, the system doesn’t work as hard.
  • Air Quality Indoors– Contaminants and air pollutants accumulate in your HVAC system. Some examples include, dander, dust, and chemicals. Then, they circulate through the entire system.  While contaminates and air pollutants in the HVAC system doesn’t necessarily mean unhealthy air, they could lead to a larger health problem overtime.

Have an annual HVAC inspection done to ensure your system is functioning efficiently. First, inspectors will examine the system components to determine whether they are contaminated, or if system performance is compromised. Green Home Air Quality technicians are trained and experienced in HVAC inspections and cleaning.  Schedule your appointment today.
